Lit X Prewrite 1

My idea for my lit X paper is one that focuses on the isolation of a cultural group within a larger society. I have always been interested in this topic and it's roots based in anthroplogical studies of the rejection and ostracization of people by other people because of race, creed, physiognamy etc.. I decided to focus this interest by solely looking at the isolation of African Americans within a predominantly Caucasian society. So far, I have read The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison and Brazil by John Updike. I plan to read a few more Toni Morrison books (thank G-d for her) and the novel Lord Jim. From here I plan to examine black isolation within a predominateately caucasian society by refining my literary research to a time period in which that isolation was most severe and choosing books that highlight that cruelty and pain. What that time period may be I don't know...perhaps the 1950's and 1960's Jim Crow Era and start of the Civil Right movement. I am very excited.
